[REVIEW] PROPHETIC SUFFERING - MMXXII Demo [2022] Self Released

Canada is the home to some of the worlds best Bestial Black/Death Metal around, and so it should be no surprise that Edmonton, Alberta is the latest to spawn a new frothing unholy dungeonous beast of burden. Prophetic Suffering are a diabolical quartet who take various influences from both the realms of Black and Death Metal and combine them in a variety of dastardly and reprehensible ways for their debut offering, 'Demo MMXXII'.

As an opening salvo, 'Slave to Torment' is a sadistic and feral beginning to the demo, combining a thunderous drumming display, very much in the Old School Death Metal style, along with furious and raw Black/Thrash style vocals that are barked out at you with utter hatred and aggression. As well as this the guitar play is as focussed and hell bent on insanity as you are likely to hear whilst the bass lines are thick and chugging and gnarly. All of this is then wrapped tightly in a cocoon of murky production that makes this demo sound like it's emanating directly from a cave. Then, as the pace steadily drops, getting slower and slower, the riffs become more and more aggressive, sinister and brooding. Superb stuff.

From there the demo descends into a madness of shorter squalid little tracks, possessing a plethora of Grindcore like pig squeals, ravenous guitar leads and even some very groove laden hooks 'The Suffering'. Prophetic Suffering are not a band to pigeonhole, churning out as they do a Death/Grind sound but with the sheer darkness and atmosphere of Black Metal. certainly this debut demo is an experience to be savoured and repeated!
