[REVIEW] VESTHANGARTH - Doomed Blood Concatenation Demo [2022] Self Release

Hailing from Concepción on the Chilean coast, Rotsterbaen (Drums/Vocals) and Horgshnar (Guitar/Bass) have created a new Black Metal project going by the name of Vesthangarth, and the duo have unleashed a debut demo entitled 'Doomed Blood Concatenation' and featuring three tracks of furious bile spitting Black Metal fury.

Opener 'Temple of Solitude' is a fast paced slice of bleak Black Metal with ice cold guitar leads and simple yet effective drumming which later on brings out the blast-beats in full force. Vocalist Rotsterbaen has a biting spiteful style as he spits venom into the microphone at every available opportunity. Unlike a lot of South American demo's, 'Doomed Blood Concatenation' doesn't suffer from poor production, nor does it have a deficiency in bass play. (Not a South American issue, the lack of prominent bass play in BM demo's is worldwide) What it has in abundance is sheer volume, as thick rumbling bass lines hook up superbly with full on riff-age assaults and a whole arsenal of drumming weapons. However, the track of the demo is the climax, 'Unleash the Malignant Obscurity' is a more mid to slower paced offering with bouts of sheet aggression thrown in. A nasty, vitriolic and down right menacing South American demo, only 12 minutes in total but well worth a few listens. (Luke Hayhurst)
