Most music genres strive to progress through its works and evolve into something even more
creative (and yes, some of them completely lose their way and just become absurd). The most vile combination of Black and Death Metal (known to elitists as 'War Metal') doesn't really give a flying fuck about it. (like it doesn't about most things). Even though War Metal began in the early nineties and a lot of the bands representing it have mellowed down since or just became too technical, there are certain hidden gems that keep the original flame going and still remain vile and interesting as much as the pioneers of the genre were. Vestal Cuntvomit from Australia are definitely one of the latter.
Straightforward blasphemy starts with 'Antichrist Artillery' and keeps its level of hatred and bestiality until the very last moment of this 15-minute face smasher without any breathers in between. Bestial Black Metal has never been meant for the weak and Vestal Cuntvomit are well aware of that. One of the things that strikes me is the bands ability to maintain the same level of aggression without sounding repetitive or stale. Buzz-sawing guitars and absolutely punishing drums are combined with strong double vocals, which enhance the hatred even more than War Metal is used to. The final concoction is absolutely obliterating and deadly.
Fifteen minutes of any sort of bestiality is usually enough to get your mind around it, but I dare you will have to give it several listens in the row. While simplicity creates the best brutality, you will find new intriguing combinations to keep your mind going. So, for every one who has lost hope that a music genre can progress while staying loyal to the pioneering sound that established the given genre, there's hope. You can start with this band and you definitely won't regret it. Simply put: It slays! (Black Mary)
