Three decades may have passed but 'Path to Oblivion' still looks fantastic and more importantly still sounds brutal! Opening with the Heavy Metal sounding riffs and punishing drumming of 'Lord of Darkness', EK soon get right down to the business of churning out thick meaty thrashing riffs and deathly harrowing growls, very similar in style to 'Beneath the Remains' era Sepultura, which came out in the very same year!
With catchy guitar leads, rolling riff led melodies and more savageness from behind the kit, 'The Blast' is exactly that, a raucous blast of high energy heaviness with some scatter gun style drumming and more furious vocal work. Certain tracks have a much more thrashy ambiance to them such as the fast and hard hitting 'Thrash Ritual' whilst others have a much more slower, crushing and crunching sound reminiscent of some of Slayer's work, such as on tracks like 'The Blades', a song by the way that also sees EK produce some mesmerizing guitar solos and when the pace increases, some of their most chaotic and savage riffs and beats!
An interesting fact, track seven entitled 'Yukk' was also the name given to a self deprecating comic strip that the band made about themselves! The song itself a rambling short ode to carnage and chaos featuring rampaging guitars and full throttle drums. I'd never heard of Energetic Krusher before receiving this promo, but I'm very glad Chaos Control are bringing back to life. It's a proper barbaric slice of UK Death/Thrash from a time before I found Metal and it still sounds meaty and rampant today. That artwork too!! (Luke Hayhurst)
