[REVIEW] ZeTA - Binary Enigma [2022] Self Release

Band: ZeTa
Location: CLEVELAND, OHIO, USA
Release: BINARY ENIGMA
Genre: EXP/MELODIC BLACK/DEATH METAL
Label: SELF-RELEASED
Year: 2022
Reviewer: RICK EAGLESTONE

Experimental melodic black/death metal project ZeTa aim to invoke a spiritual atmosphere and thought-provoking perspective on extra-terrestrial reality with their debut album “Binary Enigma”

Serving as an ominous introduction “Hopinksville Goblins” is followed by the unrelenting and chaotic “Suspended Colossus” which has some awesomely creepy guitar parts interweaved with the title track “Binary Enigma” leading us gingerly into the realm of science fiction before cruelly shoving the listener into an unexpected pit of darkness, decision for highlight track achieved.

Nile vibes are expressed in “Organic Corridor” with precise delivery but contained in that delivery is a ball of breakneck speed, before “Cosmic Space” opens another wormhole into the planet of Death Metal. Sounding like a zombie apocalypse siren “Traversing the Void” feels like it wants to separate itself into an entirely new genre but pulling it immediately back kicking and screaming with the severity of a toddler tantrum is “M-Triangle” which perfectly captures the experimental melodic black/death metal aesthetic wonderfully.

“Weight of Disclosure” is a straightforward, no-nonsense slab of the above pie, it’s like someone has a chaos button on board and constantly presses it, layer upon layer of enriching guitar tones and the final track fully instrument “Dimensional NeXt Part II” subtly transports the listener through the nexus of the ever-changing soundscapes.

Currently, the album is only available digitally, but should there be enough demand for this astral presence then we may see physical copies arrive on our home planet.

A unique and promising debut!
