As the darker autumn nights creep in, so to does my appetite for raw black metal and as I contemplate my next musical selection, I am suddenly presented with some harrowing-looking Turkish black metal with the EP “Albtraum” from Archurahl
Disturbing tones and unrepentant fury lead the charge into the opening track ‘Brutal Murder Victims’ which for nearly four minutes aims to decimate the listener, this is followed by the brooding but no less intense ‘Possessed By Wickedness’
Up next is a remastered version of ‘Maybe These Efforts Are All In Vain’ I couldn’t find, and an earlier version of the discography so have no other version to compare it to if at all, but regardless it’s a gut-wrenching riff that runs throughout combined with visceral screams make it a welcome addition, especially the dungeon synth tones that appear midway through.
‘Pure Noises Of Death Agony’ serves as a short interlude into the most surprising and highlight track, the piano-laden soundtrack Esque ‘Albtraum I’ entirely instrumental and reminiscent of Dennis Wheatley’s The Devil Rides Out.
Continuing in the same vein the follow-up ‘Albtraum II’ serves up another delectable slice of the occult concluding the EP with a very different atmosphere from its beginning. A very well-put-together EP.
